David Starr Concert 06/29/18
Americana songwriter David Starr will release an evocative new album, South and West, on June 8. The project draws inspiration from the bountiful songwriting community in Nashville, as well as the beautiful backdrop of the Grand Mesa near his home in Cedaredge, Colorado.
Starr served as sole producer of South and West. A reimagined cover of Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s “Country Comfort” is nestled among 11 songs that Starr wrote or co-wrote. The full-length project follows an acclaimed EP titled The Head and Heart, which was produced by John Oates. “David Starr has a voice you will never forget. His music is authentic, his songs are honest, full of emotion and truth,” Oates says.
The release of South and West will coincide with the grand opening of the Grand Mesa Arts Center in Cedaredge, an intimate event space brought to fruition through strong community support. Starr helped design the space in order to attract traveling musicians and exhibiting visual artists to Southwestern Colorado. He will perform at the new venue on June 16. Starr also owns and operates Starr’s Guitars in Cedaredge, a vibrant community located on the Grand Mesa, the largest flat-top mountain in the world.
South and West will follow a successful year of touring across the U.S. and abroad. In 2017, Starr performed at Nashville institutions such as Americanafest, the Bluebird Café, Station Inn, and WSM-AM 650. He also performed at esteemed Colorado listening rooms such as Swallow Hill Music in Denver. Starr will be a featured performer at the upcoming Power of Music Festival in Bentonville, Arkansas, on April 26-29. A two-week tour of the United Kingdom begins on May 18. He will perform an album release concert in Nashville on June 20.
