Bourgeois Slope D The Standard
Dana’s passion for acoustic guitars was fostered by those coveted instruments built in the pre-war era. “The Standard” model was inspired by the classic designs that emerged from the midwestern United States at that time, but incorporates many elements of Dana’s own design.
It starts with the striking Ziricote fretboard and bridge, beautiful in figure yet subtle enough to maintain the pre-war look. The single ring Ivoroid rosette and rectangular bridge hearken back to those old designs. Our contoured headstock was introduced with our L-DBO model, and fits the look perfectly!
“The Standard” comes standard with a natural top. Our sunburst, famously hand-sprayed by Dana Bourgeois himself, is available as a custom option. No two Bourgeois sunbursts are exactly the same, and that’s the way we like it. Sometimes we are influenced by the colors and textures of the top or back; sometimes we want to de-emphasize a distracting feature in an otherwise outrageous top; sometimes we’re after a vintage vibe. And, sometimes, we’re just going for a cool looking burst. Sunburst do add significant time to a custom order, but they are certainly well worth the wait!
We seem to make more variations on The Standard than any other model. Frequently requested options include; sunburst, Sitka spruce top and rosewood, curly maple, koa or walnut back and sides.
