Bourgeois Guitars Coming Soon to Sunrise Guitars

We are thrilled to announced that Bourgeois Guitars are coming soon to Sunrise Guitars, making us the only dealer in the state to carry this wonderful line of instruments. For more information on Bourgeois Guitars, see below (source: https://bourgeoisguitars.net/about/our-story):

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.

Dana Bourgeois has been building guitars for 40 years, and is regarded as a Master Luthier throughout the acoustic community

He was very influential in bringing many design innovations to the acoustic guitar field, including:

-A soft cutaway on a flattop guitar (while working with Eric Schoenberg and CF Martin for Schoenberg Guitars)

-Re-introducing Adirondack Spruce to acoustic guitar luthiery in the early 90s

-Hand-voicing in Steel String Guitar design

-Introducing torrefied (a.k.a. heat-treated) wood to acoustic guitar building

Dana and his small crew of 12 artisans build about 350 guitars a year from his shop in a historic mill in Lewiston, Maine.

All of Bourgeois guitars are hand-voiced at several stages in the production process.

Sunrise Stage Presents Loren And Mark: International Guitar Duo

Saturday February 18, 2017

Doors Open 6:30PM

Show Starts 7:30PM

Tickets Go On Sale Friday, February 3rd at 9:00AM.
Tickets for Loren & Mark: International Guitar Duo have sold out! Thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket, we look forward to seeing you at the show.

Loren Barrigar and Mark Mazengarb share a unique musical chemistry seldom found among musicians. Their live performances feature not only their spectacular technical grasp of the guitar, but also their outstanding musicality and spontaneous creativity. The interaction between the two musicians is as much a feature of their shows as is the world-class guitar playing that they both display.

Loren and Mark first met in 2005 when they spent a few days working with the great Tommy Emmanuel at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch guitar camp in Ohio. Mark was just completing his degree in classical guitar on exchange at the University of North Carolina; Loren was already a seasoned performer, but it was his first serious look at acoustic guitar.

In 2009 they met again in Nashville at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS) convention, an international gathering of hundreds of guitarists. That was the first time they started playing together, and it set the stage for the 2010 CAAS convention where they were on the schedule of performers. Though they were not originally listed to play on the big Saturday night finale, they were added to the show due to popular demand from those who heard them throughout the week.

At that show, Loren and Mark received a standing ovation, and were subsequently invited to perform concerts across the USA, and in France. Mazengarb has now been based full time in the USA since 2012, and since then the pair have toured extensively in the USA, Canada, Europe, Russia and New Zealand, and have experienced a rapidly growing fan base. Loren and Mark have performed in many small theaters across the country, and have also appeared on notable radio programs such as NPR’s Says You, Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, and the Nashville based TV show Inside Music Row. They have performed and toured with the Australian guitar legend Tommy Emmanuel.

Loren and Mark’s varied repertoire of original and arranged music consists of stunning guitar instrumentals as well as vocal duets, giving them a wide appeal. Their music is influenced by Americana, Jazz, Popular and Classical ; their style of guitar playing is largely built upon the thumb-picking techniques pioneered by guitar greats Merle Travis, Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed, and their songs feature Loren’s superb vocals with some beautiful harmonies from Mark.

All three of their duo albums have won SAMMY awards (Syracuse Area Music Awards) for Best Album, and the title track of their second studio album ‘Onward’ won best instrumental at the International Acoustic Music Awards in 2013.

Sunrise Guitars Moves To New Facility

Sunrise Guitars has moved to its new home at 2781 North College Ave. in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The location is the former Subaru and Honda dealership owned by the Nelms family. It has been transformed to be a first class regional destination for music lovers.

Miller Boskus Lack Architects, P.A. designed the extensive remodel. The new facilities include 8,500 square feet of retail space including a temperature/humidity controlled storage room for sensitive instruments, 6 private lesson rooms, repair area, and a media room. An additional 3,000 square foot performance venue will seat up to 130 guests and will includes a spacious reception area and restrooms. This area will be operated separately and will be known as “Sunrise Stage.”

This renovation has been in the planning/design phase since 2014 when Don Nelms along with partners David Nelms and Roy Shorter purchased Ben Jack’s – the region’s oldest music store. The North College Avenue location has a special meaning for the Nelms Family. Originally an Edsel dealership in 1959 when College Avenue was just a 2-lane highway, Don Nelms occupied the building in 1971 and established the House of Honda motorcycles. Over the years, Nelms added 230 feet of frontage to house a variety of auto dealerships including Chrysler, BMW, Honda, Acura, and finally Subaru. “It is especially rewarding to remodel and repurpose this prime location for Sunrise Guitars. It’s now a comfortable home for those interested in experiencing the joy of music,” says Nelms. “A place with a hometown feel and a devotion to quality. We believe this business will be a real asset to Fayetteville and all of Northwest Arkansas.”

Sunrise Guitars carries an impressive inventory with brands like Martin, Taylor, Yamaha, Cordoba, Gibson, G&L, Eastman, and more. Acoustic and electric guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, banjos, and basses are just some of the instruments available at the new location. “We are very proud that we are able to offer these iconic brands to the people of Northwest Arkansas,” says General Manager Tim Nelson.

The Fayetteville Chamber Ribbon Cutting Ceremony is scheduled for September 12th at 2pm, and Mayor Lioneld Jordan will be on hand to commemorate the occasion. Grand Opening festivities run from September 12th through the 17th, with representatives from Taylor, Yamaha, Cordoba, G&L, Eastman, Roland, and Orange Amplification on site for Q&A and product demos. The Taylor Guitars Road Show will be making a stop on September 15th for an evening of guitar talk and demos with the Taylor factory staff and guitar makers from El Cajon, California. ####
